AARP Vermont and Burlington's Office of City Planning will be hosting an in-person housing forum focused on how residents can continue living in the community they love while in safer homes that support them as they age.
This forum will be a great opportunity for interested residents to learn from both industry professionals and fellow community members about creating age-friendly housing options in their neighborhood. This event will feature a panel discussion addressing how residents are currently making aging in place a reality, particularly those who have navigated the process of building in their own backyards. The panel will consist of residents who have successfully completed this process, along with local developers and builders who actively support these initiatives.
This forum is an opportunity for community members to provide insight and ideas to inform Plan BTV: New North End, which is a comprehensive plan the City is working on to shape future land use, housing and transportation needs for the NNE.
Dinner will be provided, registration is required.
Panel Presenters Include:
· Emily Whalen, New Frameworks: New Frameworks' vision is to create thoughtfully designed, exceptionally efficient, and health-conscious homes for all.
· Missa Aloisi, Hinge Inc.: Hinge is an Architectural firm located in Burlington with a mission to make design approachable, affordable and accessible for all.

"This place has been a godsend. We moved here seven years ago, and it's hard to make new friends when you're 80! I've met so many wonderful people, and it's like a support group for me." ~ anonymous participant
"I just finished a Flow Singing month at the Heineberg Community Senior Center, and I wanted to say how wonderful it is to sing gathered in a circle in a space with a beautiful, resonant wood floor. I love that the building was built in 1941 by NNE volunteers with donated materials with the intent of supporting community connection and activity. Our Flow Singing circle this month had people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s singing together and connecting. I see people going to Bone Builders classes Tai Chi and Yoga, not to mention all the ongoing activity going on downstairs! Seems like the intent of the building is being met in so many ways. ~ Patricia Norton, Juneberry Music
The Heineberg Community Senior Center, established in 1971, is an independent, community-based non-profit serving more than 600 older Vermonters every year.
Our mission is to support the social, physical, and emotional well-being of community members ages 50+. We offer free, donation-based programs, meals, and activities to reduce isolation, develop friendships, strengthen bones, maintain balance and flexibility, access nutritious food, improve social connections, and share laughter and life experiences.
As an independent 501(c)3 non-profit, donations support our free meals and activities for Chittenden County seniors.
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or sharing information about our programs through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
